Life-AIs Project
The project Life-AIs (Project 101074540 — LIFE21-ENV-ES-Life-AIs) has received support from the prestigious LIFE environmental program of the European Union. This consortium brings together two prominent technology providers, Fede -project leader- and Agerpix, along with three major producers: Castillo de Canena, Dominio Fournier winery of the González Byass Wine Family, and Ágroptimum.

In the Life-AIs project, Fede joins forces with Agerpix, a provider of digital agronomic services specialized in data processing and predictive models, to “see” crops through image capturing using 3D cameras and process them with AI. The accuracy of the data generated from the valuable visual information allows for monitoring the state of plantations and executing high-precision treatments and tasks in the field.

Artificial Intelligence for the environment.
Life-AIs: See & Save, in English see and save, allows for understanding the vigor of the plantation, getting predictions of the harvest and disease detection. All this valuable information facilitates high-precision management of the plantation based on visual information with excellent detail and temporal resolution which will translate into significant environmental and economic benefits for agricultural companies.
It is estimated that, during the 54 months of the project, Life-AIs will achieve a reduction of 604 tons of greenhouse gases. This figure will multiply, reaching a reduction of 3,225 tons per year when the technology is implemented across approximately 97,437 hectares. These reductions translate into savings of up to 43% in plant protection products, up to 20% in fertilizers, up to 31% in fuel and up to 13% in electricity annually. These environmental achievements highlight the complete alignment of Life-AIs with the objectives set by the Farm to Fork strategy of the EU Green Deal.
The Life-AIs consortium will demonstrate the reduction of emissions and savings of this innovation in vineyard, olive grove, and pistachio plantations in Spain. To do this, trials will be conducted on 150 hectares of crops belonging to the Dominio Fournier (vineyard of the D.O. Ribera del Duero, Spain), Castillo de Canena (olive grove, Spain), and Agróptimum (pistachio, Spain).
The Life-AIs trials, which will be carried out thanks to support from the LIFE program, will confirm how this digital agronomic solution significantly reduces the environmental impact of agriculture in the high-value crop sector, ensuring a quality fruit production, increasing farmers' profitability, and helping to improve food security in society.
